About the villa

Reached by an unsurfaced drive that winds up from the village church, Casa della Collina’s views out over the countryside are exceptional, even by Italian standards. Set in 17 hectares of olive terraces and gardens. It is a villa of rare charm and tranquility with a separate farmhouse, artists' studio, swimming pool and private chapel. The villa itself sleeps 10 guests. The Garden bedroom in the farmhouse annexe provides additional accommodation for a further 2 guests.  The villa has been restored with integrity and authenticity, making the most of its high ceilings, large and numerous windows and impressive double doors. The thick walls ensure a cool interior even in the height of summer, and throughout there is relaxed refinement. A terracotta-tiled terrace, lined with lemon trees, leads onto a shaded pergola with a large travertine table and iron chairs. In summer this is, in effect, an outdoor living and dining room. A charcoal barbecue makes outdoor cooking simple, and there is a wood-burning, traditional pizza oven by the farmhouse. An evening of pizza-making is great fun for all ages. The swimming pool, with shallow end and Roman steps, is set just below the villa on a separate, deep terrace. Sheltered and with all-day sun, it has sweeping views of the valley. A second pergola provides a covered seating area. This is a great place from which to explore northern Tuscany, but once here you may not want to leave. Families are welcome and children well catered for. 

Informal family run restaurants are within easy driving distance tucked away in the countryside or in nearby villages. Within easy reach, Lucca is an enchanting Tuscan town – strolling through the historic centre, pausing at old-fashioned, cafes, pastry shops and visiting churches and museums is a real pleasure. Florence is easily accessible by train or bus. Sandy beaches are approximately 30 minutes drive away. There are music, cinema and dance festivals in Lucca, at beach resorts and smaller local festivals celebrating Saints days with impromptu suppers and dancing under the stars in the country villages. At Torre del Lago, just south of Viareggio, there is the summer Puccini Opera Festival.

Important information

Please note the property has two prices, one for up to 10 people and one from 11 to 12 people. The Garden bedroom will only be open when the property is booked for 11 – 12 people. The owner will occasionally stay in the annexe when the villa is booked for up to 10 people.  The farmhouse has a second, separate entrance and does not overlook the terraces or pool area  of the main house. 

An extra table can be added to the outside dining area to accommodate large groups. Indoors, the villa has a dining table for 10 people. 

Two single beds can be added to bedrooms in the main house, if double beds are not suitable. Maximum occupancy for the Main House remains 10 people.
